This blog is a continuation of my blog Postcode 2205: Arncliffe, Turrella, Wolli Creek. I have had to start a new page because BLOGGER, for some reason unknown to me, decided to classify Postcode 2205 as a "Spam Blog". I have no idea why. Countless requests to have this rectified were met by silence.
In effect it meant a lot more fiddling around to post new entries. So, I've continued here. Sorry to my readers for the inconvenience.

Arncliffe is a working class suburb in the inner south of Sydney, approx 10 kms (12 minutes by train) from central Sydney. It's never going to make a list of Sydney's most fashionable suburbs (though it was once - 150 years ago!) It's where I've lived for the past 22 years, and I love it, so I want to share some of its quirky bits, history, and, yes, beautiful parts, with whoever is interested.

Work's net filter has blocked the original Arncliffe blog as a chat site. Yet I can get in to this one, and your others with no problem. Strange.

I have been following your blog with interest and awaiting you getting up to my street (which is an H street). What I wanted to ask you is whether, during the course of your research into Arncliffe, you have come upon any reference to the Spargo family. They were the original owners of our house in H St (don't want to post it here) but according to their daughter (who we met about 10 years ago), they had originally owned one of the big mansions in Wollongong Road and had only built the cottage in H St after they lost all their money in the Depression. I have tried searching ADF records but have only found reference to a Raymond John Spargo in Railway Cresent.
